Gustav Mahler: Symphony No. 2 in C Minor, "Resurrection"

We invite you to Mandle Philharmonic’s presentation of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 in C Minor, "Resurrection" with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Amadeus Choir on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Roy Thomson Hall.

This performance is presented by Mandle Philharmonic, Canada’s newest emerging orchestra, establishing a foothold in the Toronto music scene.

Mandle views Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony as the ultimate expression in classical repertoire, second only perhaps to Mahler’s Symphony of a Thousand.

About Mandle Cheung
Mandle Cheung was not classically trained but was inspired by watching videos of the Berlin Philharmonic under the direction of Herbert von Karajan and more recently with Gustavo Dudamel. His passion for conducting was ignited through these performances.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Mandle Cheung came to Canada in the early 1970s to study at the University of Manitoba, where he pursued a degree in computer science. He later became a successful entrepreneur.

In 2016, Cheung began learning conducting by collaborating with two pianists and a small ensemble of 25 musicians assembled by a violinist. Through rehearsals of various works, he learned to read orchestral scores and refine his craft.

To date, Mandle Philharmonic has performed 15 concerts across venues like Koerner Hall and Meridian Arts Centre, presenting 7 different programs, including Mahler’s First and Fourth symphonies.
