ABOUT

The extraordinary story of Canadian icon Terry Fox will be told like never before in Run Terry Run, a new feature-length documentary directed and produced by acclaimed Toronto filmmaker Sean Menard. The film offers an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at Terry’s legendary 1980 Marathon of Hope, drawing from 96 reels of never-before-seen footage and unheard audio interviews that have remained untouched for 45 years.

With special access to the Fox family archives, Run Terry Run takes audiences inside the iconic van and onto the Canadian roads with Terry and his team, capturing the raw emotion, determination, and humanity that defined his historic cross-country journey.

“Unearthing these reels of film, many of which hadn’t been opened in 45 years, was nothing short of surreal,” says Sean Menard. “Digging through this historic archive gave me a chance to truly understand who Terry was, beyond the headlines. Being able to share that with the world is something I don’t take lightly. It’s an honour to have the trust and support from the Fox family to tell this story in a way that feels timeless and takes audiences right back to 1980.”

“We are forever grateful to Sean for his dogged determination in unearthing gold in the form of unseen footage of Terry,” says Darrell Fox, on behalf of the Terry Fox family. “In his unique and creative style, Sean allows us to experience Terry’s personality in depth—his humbleness and humility, his vision and values—in a way that has never been captured before.”

Announced during the 45th anniversary year of Terry’s iconic Marathon of Hope, the film is part of a yearlong celebration of special events, programs, and initiatives to honour Terry’s legacy and continue his dream of a world without cancer.

Proceeds from ticket sales support the Terry Fox Foundation and life-changing cancer research in Canada.
