Itzhak Perlman enjoys superstar status rarely afforded a classical musician. Beloved for his talent, charm, and humanitarian efforts, he is treasured by audiences throughout the world. With an irrepressible joy for making music, the violin virtuoso is one of the most in-demand artists in music. Classical music’s most prominent ambassador, Perlman has been granted a Kennedy Center Honor, Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and Presidential Medal of Freedom.

His longtime recital partner Rohan De Silva joins Perlman for yet another) peerless evening of music-making as he celebrates his 80th birthday season.


Itzhak Perlman Biography

Undeniably the reigning virtuoso of the violin, Itzhak Perlman enjoys superstar status rarely afforded a classical musician. Beloved for his charm and humanity as well as his talent, he is treasured by audiences throughout the world who respond not only to his remarkable artistry but also to his irrepressible joy for making music.

Having performed with every major orchestra and at concert halls around the globe, Mr. Perlman was granted a Presidential Medal of Freedom – the Nation’s highest civilian honor – by President Obama in 2015, a National Medal of Arts by President Clinton in 2000 and a Medal of Liberty by President Reagan in 1986. Mr. Perlman has been honored with 16 GRAMMY® Awards, four Emmy Awards, a Kennedy Center Honor, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Genesis Prize.

In the 2025/26 season, Mr. Perlman celebrates his 80th birthday season with a variety of programs. He brings his iconic PBS special In the Fiddler’s House program to New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Dallas, Santa Barbara and Davis in celebration of the program’s 30th anniversary alongside today’s klezmer stars including Hankus Netsky, Andy Statman and members of the Klezmer Conservatory Band. His orchestral engagements include Cinema Serenade programs with the Cleveland Orchestra, Louisville Orchestra and Colorado Springs Philharmonic as well as a play/conduct program with the San Francisco Symphony. He also makes a special appearance with the Colorado Symphony at Carnegie Hall. He continues touring An Evening with Itzhak Perlman, which captures highlights of his career through narrative and multi-media elements intertwined with performance and plays recitals across the U.S. including San Francisco, Baltimore, Austin, Palm Desert and Stony Brook with longtime collaborator Rohan De Silva.

For over thirty years, Mr. Perlman has been devoted to music education, mentoring gifted young string players alongside his wife Toby in the Perlman Music Program. He has taught at the Program each summer since its founding in 1994. With close to 800 alumni, PMP is shaping the future landscape of classical music worldwide. Mr. Perlman currently holds the Dorothy Richard Starling Foundation Chair at the Juilliard School.

  • Subway: Located beside St. Andrew Station on the University Line.
  • Streetcar: Take the 504 King to King & University.
  • GO Transit / VIA Rail: A 5–6 block walk from Union Station or 1 subway stop to St. Andrew Station.

Clean, well-lit, and located directly beneath the Hall with two levels. Entrance on Wellington St., west of Simcoe.

  • On event days, debit and cash are accepted when an attendant is on-site (2 hours before the event).
Bag Policy

Bags are discouraged and subject to security screening. Bags larger than 14" x 14" x 6" are not permitted. Allowed bags must be soft-sided and fit completely under your seat.

Coat check is available in the lobby, beside the main entrance. Please note that Roy Thomson Hall is a cashless venue, so only credit or debit cards are accepted.
